eZ80 Remote Access

requirements

• Minimum configuration. This configuration requires that a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) be installed on the user PC. The user must have one of the eZ80 development boards - containing the eZ80190 CPU or the eZ80L92 CPU. The eZ80 development boards and the user PC must be connected via a LAN network. This configuration allows complete access to the functionality of the software and its use as described in this application note document.
• Complete configuration. The Complete configuration requires the above plus the installation of the Zilog Developer Studio. Also the Java Software Development Kit might be installed for the user to create custom application modules for the Client Software in Java language.

Zilog Developer Studio

The Remote Access server software and firmware projects can be built using Zilog Developer Studio (ZDS). For the eZ80190 CPU projects the ZDS 3.68 is required, which can be downloaded from Zilog website. For the eZ80L92 CPU projects the ZDS 4.10 is required, which is included in the L92 Developers Kit.

Java Virtual Machine

The Remote Access client software is a Java application which requires a corresponding Java Machine to be installed on the user computer. The JClient requires the Sun Java Runtime Environment JRE v1.3. Refer to the Java website for the download information (http://www.java.sun.com/).

The WClient requires the latest version of the Microsoft Java VM. This also is available as a free download. Refer to the Microsoft website for the download information (http://www.microsoft.com/java/).

Remote Access Software Installation

The Remote Access Software is supplied as a .zip archive. The archive is to be unpacked to a directory on the PC hard disk. The structure of the subdirectories is described in the Remote Access Directory structure section.

The eZ80 software files can normally be found in the bin\ subdirectory. The Client executables are found in JClient\ and WClient\ subdirectories.
