Transitions between generations in computer technology are hard to
define. Some changes appeared immediately and then vanished in to the
thin air, such as the switch from vacuum tubes to transistors.
Actually, this happend due to the high technology in the fast moving
world.
This generation is beginning with many gains in parallel computing,
both hardware area and software area. These days parallel systems
compete with vector processing systems, but scientist have predicted
that the parallel system will dominate the future.
One of the most important changes in the sixth generation will be the
explosive growth of network systems. Network has expanded tremendously
in the last few years and it will continue to do so in the next
years.
Actually scientists are unable to predict where this computational
science will go? and when will it stop? Computers have circuits which
can make decisions according to particular instructions. Unfortunately,
they can only decide 3 things. Is one number less than another? Are
two numbers equal? Is one number greater than another?
Tomorrows World
Some day in the near future, scientists and engineers will build an
intelligent computer whose reasoning and creative powers match or
exceed our own. The next generation of computer will be different.
They will understand spoken instructions. They will have voices of
their own, also be able to think for themselves. How will all this
be possible? Because tomorrowÕs computers will work like the human
mind. Inside our brains there are millions of nerve cells or ÔneuronesÕ
. These are connected together like streets in a city. Because of this
complex network system, we can think, remember, be creative, have ideas
and communicate. Not only that, we can do several things at once.
TomorrowÕs computers can be like this. However, in the near future
the computer will dominate the world and may be they will try to think.
If they can achieve decisions without human instructions, they may be
able to invade the human world like in the movie Terminator II.
