Timothy Thompson is back for his second stint in the Londonderry Planning Office
Thompson, who was an intern for former Planning & Economic Development Director Peter Lowitt in 1996, was recently hired as full-time assistant planner for Londonderry
Money was appropriated for the position during the last budget season, and current Planning & Economic Development Director Andre Garron said he couldn't be happier.
"Tim's assistance has been quite valuable," Garron said.
Thompson holds two bachelor's degrees from Ball State University in Indiana. One is a professional five-year degree in urban planning & development and the other is a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental design.
After graduating in 1997 Thompson took a job as the staff planner for the City of Rochester, where he worked until he was hired for the Londonderry position last month.
The move was a logical one for career improvement, Thompson observed.
"There's a lot of things going on down here that attracted me," Thompson, the life-long Concord resident, said adding the shorter commute was also a contributing factor. "It was the right career opportunity for me at the time."
Having more responsibility here than he did in Rochester appeals to Thompson as does getting to give more input at meetings about projects, something he has taken an active role in doing since his internship. During his internship, Thompson designed the wireless communications ordinance for cellular towers in the town, and since he started on May 15 he indicated he has been very busy working on the proposed wetlands buffer zone ordinance.
"Ive been busy," Thompson said with a cheerful chuckle.
For the first time the town has two members in its planning office. Thompson said the relationship between he and Garron, both of whom are former football players, is a perfect match.
"I think we really work well together," Thompson said. "Andre and I meshed very well."
Garron agreed, saying he knew Thompson would be a perfect fit from his first interview.
"It's been great," Garron said about his relationship with Thompson, adding that out of the 10 applicants for the position, Thompson "rose to the top."
