I was in Abadan about 3 months ago. I visited 25 Shahrivar (the new
location at "Helal-e-Braim) during the class hours.  The teachers were
teaching their classes.  I went to the classroom that I had attended when I
was there.  The class in session was mathematics.  I had a video camera
with me and asked if I could video the teacher while he was teaching and I
told him that I was a student here about 18 years ago.  You know how cool
Abadanis are.  He said no problem and I filmed him while he was teaching.
It is funny that the students were all playing a role and no one looked in
the camera as if I did not exist there.  Eventhough once in a while you
could see a student who could not keep his laghter and kind of smiled
without looking in the camera.  Of course they are all so cool that is why
they call them Abadani.

In any case, the school looked the same but much much smaller than when I
was there.  There were slogans on the walls all over the place.  The gym
which use to be used also for final exams had been converted to a class
room.  The Ping pong tabel had been placed outside in the corridor where we
use to park our bicycles and kids were playing Ping Pong.  There was not
much going on around and all the kids were in school.  At around 12 p.m.
the school lunch time was up and all kids from Mehrnoosh came out ( the
name has changed to something else).  Lots of kids lined up in front of the
store next to Mehrnoosh to buy seeds (Tokhmeh) or other things.  One kid
asked for 50 tooman in tokhmeh but asked to shop keeper to put all the
seeds in his jaket pocket rather than in a bag.  I though that was very
funny.  Only in Abadan.

Rest of Abadan looked OK but with signs of the destruction all over the
place.  Many shops are still closed, Cenima Rex colsed, Cinema Shireen
converted to a 5 or six story building, Cinema Khorshid demolished with a
vacant land now in place, Cinema Taj fully repaired and so on.

It is sure worth going to if you get a chance to go to Iran.

Hope to hear from all of you.
