Quad 22/II/I and associated
tuners were designed to be easily mounted
in cabinets (with the Quad
II power amps hidden out of sight) The units are mounted by removing
the two rear screws securing the metal housing, sliding
them into the cabinet cut-out, and then re-securing.
Custom cabinets were made by many companies,
usually also incorporating a turntable such
as Garrard or Connoisseur.
The public had been used to radiograms and
consoles so this kind of arrangement was very
popular. The cabinet featured here houses a Garrard
turntable/arm and is mono - using the
QCII pre and only one
II power amp.
- this system is interesting as it incorporates
one of the original (and now quite rare) AM1 tuners - distinguishable from
the more common AM2 by its half-moon style switches.
- The Control 22 disc equalisation table is also
mounted in the cabinet so the 22 can be appropriately set for different
recordings.
