In January 2000, Quad will release a new 40w version of the classic Quad II featuring KT88 output valves accompanied by a new pre drawing inspiration from the Quad 22, but with modern electronics and styling - the Quad 24. The new Quad II-40 was launched at the London Hifi Show in September - I'll publish more information as I hear it...
Here's the full II40/24/II40 system. Designed by Andy Grove (previously of AudioNote), the new combo draws from classic Quad II and 22 design, but combines it with modern valve technology and aesthetics...

"Styled around the original 1953 Quad II amplifier, the new Quad II-40 monoblock exudes the best elements of classic design, coupled with the quality and performance the modern audiophile expects from Quad. The uniquely elegant circuit topology, designed by audio legend Peter Walker remains, but modern components and materials deliver state of the art performance and power. The new amplifier's high quality power supply, using a 5U4 rectifier, with its KT88 output valves, delivers an undistorted power output in excess of 40w.
