Motion in Architecture

Case:

According to the filmed version of motion (passage) through an architectural space.

Effect:

The flow of populations through the space are missing.

Solution:

Map the flow of motion in an architectural space according to the the main avenues of traversal (access) according to obstructed and open space.

Case:

According to the use of digital compositing (overlapping) of various scenes of motion footage.

Effect:

The realistic dynamics of background scenery during a movement are not evident.

Solution:

Develop animation techniques which explore dynamics of background scenery

Commentary:

The study of the navigation through an architectural space requires the consideration of several descriptive/analytic components beyond what can be found in 3-D or the use of a sequence of plots of 3-D coordinates along a time line (sequence). Navigational space is a problem of flow of a population. The study of Architecture in Art History or as a problem of Design offer us some principles vital to the study of building but much less for the study of Navigation in terms of two fundamental resources:

  • Map-Reading
(the move from a 2-D plan to decision-making/pathfinding in a real-world architectural space)

  • Traversal of Accessways 1
