76.605(a)(5)
Fact
The visual signal level on each channel, as measured at the
end of a 30 meter cable drop that is connected to the
subscriber tap, shall not vary more than 8 decibels within
any six-month interval which must include four tests
performed in six-hour increments during a 24-hour period in
July or August and during a 24-hour period in January or
February
Myths
"You must measure 5 times during a 24 hour period."
You can measure as many times as you like as long as you don't go over or under
the time limits established in 76.601(c)(1).
"You can measure whenever you want as long as it's real hot or real cold..."
The law clearly states, "July or August" and "January or February"
"All tests must be performed at the same time as the 24 hour tests."
This is probably a good idea but the 24 hour variances and leakage are the only tests that are
required to be conducted at specific times during the year.
76.601(c)tells at what intervals the rest of the tests are to be conducted.
NOTE:
If you decide to test CTB at the same time your 24 hour tests are running, you may
have problems.........
Measurements
There are several types of meters on the market today to make these types of
measurements. 76.609(a)provides some suggestions on how to perform
other tests and 76.601(a)(1)provides test point and data collection information.
