Geoffrey's Bat, Notch-eared Bat

Myotis emarginatus:

     This species is characterize by a conspicuous notch on lateral border of the ear, a character lacking in any other species of Myotis  in the region. it is a small bat with conspicuous lateral notch on the ear. Tragus sharply pointed and about half the height of pinna. Extreme tail tip extending beyond inter femoral membrane. Fur distinctively reddish-brown dorsally and woolly in texture. Underside paler with more orange-brown colour.

     Range of the species is South Europe, North to Netherlands and South Poland, Crimea, Caucasus and Kopet Dag Mtns, east to Uzbekistan and East Iran, Palestine, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon and Afghanistan.

     Single male can be found in a large female population except in the time of copulation. It is known in the northern mountains of Jordan with dense vegetation and forests. it was reported form the Dibbon National forest  (Qumsiyeh et al., 1986).
