Tadarida teniotis:
This bat is easily distinguished by its external appearance, it has wrinkled "bull-dog" face. It has a large ears and very long narrow wings. This species occurs in the Mediterranean coastal zone of southern Europe, northern Africa and the eastern Mediterranean region. The range further extends into central Asia, China, Korea and Japan. It is recorded in Jordan several times , first record occurred in Jordan valley by Tristram (1866) . East of Jordan river this species was found at Faidhar ed Dahikiya (Atallah,1976-1977) , and Jordan University campus, Jubeiha (Qumsiyeh, 1980), it was also recorded in jerash, Ghor as Safi near the dead sea and Disi in wadi Rum (Qumsiyeh, 1992) and Amman ( Zuhair Amr collection). T.teniotis lives in fissures in the sides of cliffs, in crevices in natural rock formations, or in crevices in the roofs of caves, it can fly high and travel long distances , it descend to roost, drink and rest. it flight is fast and direct due to unique adaptations of its wings. In Jordan the species was found in extreme desert conditions in the north end of Wadi Sirhan in eastern Jordan as well as in very Mediterranean forests of the north. |
