This is the largest bat in the region, and it is very distinctive in it's size and appearance, it weighing around 150g and a forearm greater than 84 mm in adults. It's range from most Africa south to Sahara, the Nile valley in Egypt, cultivated areas of the eastern Mediterranean, Arabia, Turkey and east to Pakistan. It is live in large colonies in caves, ruins and other structures, and it seems to prefer relatively humid caves with certain amount of reflected light, they are diurnal but with peaks of activity in the early evening and dusk hours. Fruit bats feed on sycamore, Mulberries, Guava, Dates and figs. They have also reported to visit flowers of the ornamental silk cotton tree. It's Arabic name is ( خفاش الفاكهة)
