Serotine

 

 

Eptesicus serotinus:

     It is larger and more heavily built than E.bottae , The colour is dark brown.

     Range of the species is Europe, northern Africa, south-western Asia, northern India and into Mongolia, China and Korea.

     This species is found in well -vegetated areas . It roosts in building , tree holes, crevices and similar places. Food consists of mostly insects, especially beetles . which these bats can easily manipulate with their powerful teeth.

     Serotines may migrate up to 300 km between summer and winter quarters (Corbet and Wvenden,1980).

     Still the species is not recorded in Jordan but ( Studies in the mountain regions in North Jordan will certainly find this species) Qumsiyeh  et al ., 1998.
