Asellia tridens:
Asellia is distinguished easily from other leaf-nosed bats of the region ( Rhinolophus) by presence of three projections of the dorsal nose leaf and by a relatively larger ear size. Range of species from north Africa south to Gambia, east through Arabia and southwestern Asia to Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India. This bat is adapt to arid conditions of the Sahara desert where no other species of bat was seen. It has a high temperature tolerance. Al- Robaae (1966) showed that actually they have winter quarters that they occupy until April, whereupon they return to their summer quarters. The gestation period is assumed to be 9-10 weeks with a single young born in early June. In Jordan it has two Locations which are Petra and al Naqah in Wadi Araba (Amr 2000). |
