Gym Leaders

The Secrets of the Gym Leaders

Almost every major town or city in the world has a Poke'mon gym. Each gym has a leader who is an expert Poke'mon trainer. If you battle and defeat each of the Gym Leader's Poke'mon, you earn a badge. Most gyms specialize in training Poke'mon of one specific element. For example, the gym in Pewter City is dedicated to Rock Poke'mon. The one on Cinnabar Island is devoted to Fire Poke'mon. There are eight world-famous gyms. Here's a basic rundown of the need-to-know info on each of them:

1) Brock

Brock rocks! As leader of the Pewter City Gym, he's tough to beat. Brock spent years running the gym and taking care of his ten younger brothers and sisters while his father was travelling far and wide as a Poke'mon trainer. Now it's Brock's turn. Brock's Dad, Flint, is back, and Brock has joined fellow trainers, Ash Ketchum and Misty on their journey to be great Poke'mon trainers. He uses the experience he gained raising his siblings to raise Poke'mon. Because he's older and more experienced than Misty and Ash, he gives them a lot of advice. He also knows how to keep Ash's temper and determination from getting out of hand.
Brock's goal is to be the World's Greatest Poke'mon Breeder. He hopes to learn everything he can about raising all the different kinds of Poke'mon. He'd rather take care of them than use them for battle. In fact, Brock is taking a little study break on the Orange Islands to get some intense experience caring for the Poke'mon there. His specialty is Rock Poke'mon. But his heart isn't rock hard. What's Brock's biggest weakness? He goes gaga for girls-especially Nurse Joy.

Uses Geodude & Onix.

2) Misty

Misty is talented, loyal, adventurous, and caring. She comes from a family of Gym Leaders. She is the youngest of four sisters, Violet, Lily, and Daisy. The "Sensational Sisters" share responsibility for the Cerulean City Gym. They also share a passion for raising Water Poke'mon.
But too much sharing can be frustrating. Misty is tired of broken hand-me-downs-worn-out clothes and broken dolls. She has had enough of living in the shadows of her beautiful sisters and she is definitly sick of getting picked on. So she is taking a break from gym life to develop her talent as a Poke'mon trainer. She is travelling with her friends Ash and Brock. Her biggest frustration is her Psyduck, who doesn't listen to a word she says. Her biggest joy? Togepi, her baby Poke'mon.

3) Lt. Surge

Liuetenant Surge is in command! Prepare for a workout when you enter his gym. He's one tough trainer. But he has a major flaw. Lt. Surge cares more about winning than about his Poke'mon. He evolved his Pikachu into a Raichu as soon as he got it, so it never learned the electric techniques it could only learn in the Pikachu stage.

4) Erika

Erika loves nature. Her gym looks like a garden. Erika started out as the manager of a perfume shop. She decided to become a Grass Poke'mon trainer because of her friendship with Gloom. It saved her from a messy Grimer attack. She knows that if you don't understand your Poke'mon's feelings, you'll never become a great trainer.
