The following email message was received by us on November 25, 1997:

Dear Shimadzu,

Recently, we received a fax of the homepage at http://www.bigfoot.com/~shimadzu-sux here in the department. It was only after a student pointed out an article that was published in USA Today last friday (Nov 21, 1997) that I took an interest in the subject material. The article was entitled "Japan Port Strike." It said "Cargo handling operations at 50 ports throughout Japan were paralyzed today as port workers began a 24-hour strike to protest changes instituted to resolve a shipping dispute with the United States. The two countries reached an agreement last month to settle U.S. complaints that port practices in Japan were unfair to U.S. shipping." THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Laboratory personnel in the U.S. should BOYCOTT Shimadzu Scientific Instruments because of these business practices back in your homeland in Japan.

After reviewing some of the info on this homepage, it is clearly evident that Shimadzu has a problem (make that PROBLEMS with a captial "S"). I have seen your antiquated instrumentation (if you can call it that) in a few labs here on campus. I never see anybody using it - WHY IS THAT? Now I have good reason to tell all my colleagues to BOYCOTT Shimadzu and your products.

In closing, rest assured that I will pass along the excellent info faxed to our department so many more will come to know "the other side of Shimadzu."

With few regards,

UMBC faculty member

Think Shimadzu is missing something.... sure they are!

Now.... Beckman and HP customers have reason to admire
the factual information published on our homepage.
