4 Wire Breakout Box Description

The 4 wire breakout box is designed to interface between a Telephone type switch and Hughes Network Systems (TES) Telephony Earth Station 4 slot (LDC) Low Density Chassis.  The 4 wire breakout box, breaks out up to 8 wires on a single telephone circuit.  The 8 wires include the Transmit audio pair tip and ring, the Receive audio pair tip and ring, the E & M leads and the Signal Battery & Signal Ground Leads.  The 4 wire breakout box illustrated below actually contains four individual 4 wire breakout boxes.  This design was manufactured to interface directly to a TES 4 slot chassis containing four channel unit cards.  The rear of the 4 wire breakout box contains a RJ45 socket.  This allows a simple 8 wire RJ45 flat ribbon telephone cable with RJ45 connectors to interface directly between the TES channel card and the 4 wire breakout box.  The chassis is manufactured to fit into a 19 inch rack with a height equal to one rack unit or 1.75 inches.  This chassis is not limited to its use for TES and can be incorporated into any 4 wire telephone system requiring the leads to be monitored or broken out for trouble shooting.  The jacks built into the box are a standard mini bantam type jack from ADC.  A ground lug is provided to allow test equipment to be grounded to a common point.
