CSTP Benefits

1. Cost-effective tuning of PI, PID controllers

Improvement of control loop response.140MW, 75MW Units of Haifa PS and 50MW Units of Reading PS: Settling time and Overshoot of tuned control loops has been reduced by 2-3 times when these loops were tuned optimally (see some examples of time responses below). This decreases the amount of additional fuel used in dynamic responses.
Drastic reduction of the tuning time under ordinary operation condition.75MW Units of Haifa PS: The optimal tuning of all main loops for two units was accomplished during retrofits within two weeks instead of two months for each unit. Save tuning engineer cost of 50,000$ for each unit.

Prevent unplanned outages (increased survivability ).140MW Units of Haifa PS: Saving cost of two prevented unplanned outages is 120,000$.

2. Creating generation unit model and simulating unit behavior for :

Load-frequency Control (LFC) or Automatic Generation Control (AGC)

575MW Units of Rutenberg PS, 350MW Units of MDA PS: Dynamic models were created for purposes of LFC. These models predict power unit responses optimaly (see examples below).

Improvement of generation unit behavior in the modes of grid frequency changes

575MW Units of Rutenberg PS: The new Coordinated Control structure is offered to satisfy the DVG (Deutsche VerbundGesellschaft)-Requirement at 85% as compared with 30% for the present structure.

350MW Units of MDA PS: The new Coordinated Control structure is offered to decrease throttle pressure drop from 15Atm to 5Atm in the modes of grid frequency abrupt deviations.
