Over the last 20 years we have changed. Our program began as an Industrial Arts Woodworking program. After about ten years it evolved into a Material and Processes class about one half of the day. In the early 1980's we adopted the full day Technolody Education Program. Seneca Middle School's Tech. Ed. Class is designed to introduce students to the modern world of work. New careers are broken down into key elements and then these elements are changed into processes. The processes are turned into activities that can be completed by the students. The activities are written so they can be completed in one hour segments. Ten of the segements are combined to make 2 weeks or 10 days of work called modules. Students rotate to a new modules every 10 days. Besides the activities the students read about the career for the first 10 minutes, the second and fourth days of class, and then write a breif technical report about what they read. They will also define some of the key words used in the field in the form of a matching test. Later, they will search to answer questions about the occupation using related books and magazines. Currently we have 50 modules available to our students. Level II modules allow students that are more advanced to focus on building higher level projects. |
