The St.Croix River (in Minnesota) is a great place.
It has been called the most non-polluted large river in the world.
It is home to at least 70 species of fish and 50 species of freshwater mussels.
Its scenic bluff tops and cozy river towns make the river (St.Croix) a great place to visit.
Because the St.Croix is so unique,
the US Government has made St.Croix a national river.
But the St.Croix is just 30 minutes drive from the Twin Cities.
And each year the Twin Cities get closer to the St. Croix.
More and more homes are being built.
Shopping malls are popping up all over.
Golf courses, roads, food stores, fast food and schools are replacing trees, prairies and wetlands.
Recently, the States of Minnesota and Wisconsin made plans to make
a huge highway bridge over the St. Croix right in Stillwater, a small but nice town right on the river.
People who favor the bridge say that it is needed
to reduce traffic in the area.
They say the bridge will bring business and money to the area.
People who don't want the bridge say that it will only make more people come to the area,
and that it will make the river look ugly which nobody wants.
They also say that if it was built the consruction would also pollute the river by dirt and chemicals.
You are the manager of the St. Croix River.
It is up to you to make the big decision.
Will you allow the bridge to be built?
Or will you say N O to the planners?
What will the bridge look like?
How will you make EVERYONE happy???
