You are the manager of the St.Croix River and there is another problem.
Every year lots and lots of people take their boats to the St.Croix.
Attached to their boats are tiny creatures called zebra mussels.
They attach to the boats from other lakes, rivers and oceans.
When they get to the St.Croix they release from the boats and go into he river.
That doesn't sound to horrible, but the zebra mussel is bad news for the St.Croix.
The zebra mussel is what's called an exotic species.
An exotic species is an animal or creature that is not naturally found in that area.
When it comes into the area, it competes with native species, disrupts the food chain (or web),
and can cause the ecosystem to collapse.
The zebra mussel is spreading in the St.Croix and many people fear that it
could destroy the St.Croix ecosystem.
What will you do?
First, you must figure out how the mussel is damaging the river.
How will you do this?
Then, you must make a decision on how to stop the mussel.
Can you think of some good ideas?
