Science Project - Fourth Six Weeks

Oral Report

Length: 5 to 7 minutes. Reports will be timed but are expected to cover the topic.

Sources: You will use your 5 page paper as the source for your oral report.

Support Material: You may use note cards, or written papers during your presentation. But you should not just read them to the class. They should guide your talk, not dominate it.

Visual Aid: You will use some type of visual aid to support your oral presentation. This could be a poster, transparencies, or some other visual representation of information. If you choose to do a Power Point visual aid you should not have any more that 3 to 4 slides for a 5 minute presentation. Any pictures you use or text should be large enough to be seen be everyone. The best way to show pictures is as Power Point slides. If it can’t be seen it is worthless as a visual aid. Remember, this is to supplement your oral presentation not overpower it.

Written Product: On the day of your report you will turn in an outline of your presentation. Because there is no APA format for an outline use the outline format taught in your English class. The outline will have a title page and will include the reference list from your 5 page paper.

Expectations: You will instruct the class for five to seven minutes on your topic. During that time you will be the expert and should be prepared to handle the job. Most students will need to prepare by taking notes, outlining the report, and practicing the oral presentation. Attention needs to be given to time limitations when you practice your oral report. Reports will be given in class beginning 24 February. The presentation schedule will be posted 23 Feb.

Report Period: During the oral reports all students will be expected to be attentive, cooperative, courteous, and helpful. Rudeness will not be tolerated - this includes talking or whispering while a report is in progress. Failure to respond as expected will result in the loss of points off your report grade.

Grading Criteria: The criteria to be used for grading your oral report are on the following sheet. Use these as a guide to prepare your report. I will use the same list to evaluate your presentation.
