Science Project for Fifth Term
Research Project
This six weeks you will conduct an experiment or study to test a hypothesis. If you manipulate variables and observe the consequences you have done an experiment; otherwise you have done a study. A detailed Science Project Guidebook is on the projects page. You may work in pairs to complete this assignment. You have two choices to report your results. You may do a written report or a display board. The project will be due 20 April 2008.
Written Report:
Your written report will have these parts:
1. Title Page
2. Abstract Page
3. Hypothesis or research question
4. Materials List (if you do a survey, include a copy of the survey following Conclusions
5. Method or Procedures
6. Data: You should use both tables and graphs to organize and analyze your data
7. Analysis of Data and Conclusions
8. Reference Page (at least 1 reference)
Detailed instructions are in the Projects Guide.
Use APA format for your report. Use side labels for parts 3 through 7, but each does not have to be on a separate page. These parts, together, will be at least 4 pages long. Parts 1, 2 and 8 will be separate pages. Your report is to be typed, double-spaced using a 12 point font. Use Arial, Courier, or Times New Roman. Use 1 inch margins on all four sides. Place a short title and page number in the upper right corner of each page.
Three Panel Display:
Your project will be a 3-panel display (use science fair boards available from Staples, WalMart, and other stores). The left hand panel will have your title, background information to support your hypothesis and method, and your hypothesis or research question. The center panel will have your experiments method and the results you obtained. Present your results both as a table and as a graph. You may also include pictures or drawings of your experiment. The right panel will have an analysis of your data, your conclusions, and your name. The reference list will go on the back of the right panel. Place your names on a small label in the bottom right corner. Detailed instructions for the 3 panel display are in the Project Guide.
