Supersymmetry

All right, what the heck is it? Talk straight!

Simply put, Supersymmetry is the idea in the theory of Superstrings that every elementary “particle” that we currently know (electrons, protons, quarks, leptons, and all of the other ones) have “partners” at higher energy levels which we haven’t seen yet because we haven’t built powerful enough accelerators. There are ones that will be barely up to the task that are currently being guilt in Europe, but it may be years of testing before we can be reasonably sure that “superpartners” exist or not. If gravity is a particle, then what would its “superpartner” be like? It’s not a difficult stretch to imagine a particle like a proton having a partner that is 1000 times larger than it, but how to imagine Supergravity? Suffice it to say, it would interact with our space-time in a unique way.
