In 1998 the first Annual Edition Doll appeared, Destiny , FAO Schwarz had two limited edition dolls On the Avenue Gene and Warmest Wishes Gene. The new holiday outfit this year was called Ransom in Red . Gene dolls issued were Champaign Supper , Creme de Cassis , Incognito , Daughter of the Nile, Hello Hollywood, a new NALED exclusive, Covent Garden, and another limited edition doll Midnight Gamble . Seven more outfits were issued.
In 1999 NALED issued two exclusives, an outfit called On the Veranda and a doll, the American Countess. The holiday outfit was a wonderful slacks set called Home for the Holidays. The FAO Schwarz exclusive doll was Tea Time at the Plaza and the Ashton Drake exclusive doll was Unforgettable and she was, with the gorgeous platinum hair - a first for Gene.
Gene has taken the collectors world by storm and shows no sign of letting up. 2000 is Gene's 5th anniversary and it is an exciting collection with the addition of Gene's rival Madra. I like to display Gene in all her outfits and mix and match the dolls as well as the outfits.
In 2001 a wonderful new male doll Trent was added to the collection and a new Simply Gene with new lip and nail paint. I slowed down collecting Gene in 2002, but love the new fully articulated Gene dolls released in 2006 from Integrity Toys.
Below are pictures of the Gene dolls & outfits from 1995 and 1996.
I like to change the outfits on all my Gene dolls and these pictures
show some of my Genes in various outfits, other than the ones
they came in.
This photo shows the Blue Goddess Gene
dressed in Pinup's black teddy. I added the black seamed stockings
from the Premier outfit and the jewelry from Striking Gold. Love to
mix and match. In the center, Pinup Gene is wearing the Crimson
Sun outfit and on the right, Red Venus Gene wears Afternoon Off.
This picture shows Red Venus, on the
left wearing Crescendo, Blue Goddess Gene in the center redressed in
Red Venus's red gown and the Monoco Gene on the right wearing the
Blue Goddess gown.
Here is Blue Goddess Gene, on the left
wearing the Striking Gold outfit with PinUp Gene in the Center in Blue
Evening and Red Venus on the right wearing Afternoon Off.
This photo again shows Red Venus in
Crescendo on the left, then the Brunette Monoco Gene wearing Striking
Gold, Premier Gene wearing El Morocco and Blue Goddess in her
original gown.
On the left is the Premier Gene doll wearing
the outfit Loves Ghost. The little guitar is from the Bombay Company
and is the perfect scale size for Gene. On the right is the Blue
Goddess Gene wearing the wedding gown from the Monoco Gene doll.
Here is Gene dressed for a trip in
the Goodbye New York outfit. The guitar case does not come with the
outfit, but comes with the little guitar shown in the above photo. The
blue Gene hatbox is a promotional item from Ashton Drake. The teddy bear
and other hatbox come with this outfit. On the right is the PinUp Gene doll
dress in the outfit The Kiss.
On the left Blue Goddess Gene is wearing
Premier Gene's black velvet gown. In the center Pinup Gene wears the outfit
Pink Lightening and to the right is Monoco Gene in the outfit Usherette.
The above two photos show from the left, Monoco Gene wearing Blonde
Lace and reclining on the Loveseat from the Bombay Company. Again we
see the Premier Gene in El Morocco, Blue Goddess Gene in Red Venus's red
gown and Red Venus in Crescendo. The photo on the right shows Blue
Goddess Gene in the limited edition Holiday Magic gown and on the
right, Red Venus in the custom made Gene Convention Outfit by Beldolls@aol.com.
A place for collectors to discuss Gene.
