How I came to know Christ
Like a lot of Korean Christians, my testimony isn't some story of some
miraculously changed person, whose life turns around. Yet it is a story of
how God sent his one and only Son, to save someone like me, someone
who is so easily forgetful of how small he really is compared to the majesty
of God.
I was born in a Christian family which I realize has been a blessing all my life.
Even now, seeing how my parents are constantly growing can only be an
encouragement to me. But because of them, I only knew a life of going to church,
but not really one of following and knowing Christ. This went on for much
of my life and almost all of my years at Oriental Mission Church.
However, when my sister went off to school, I no longer had the option of
going to my old church, so I started going to church with my parents in East
Los Angeles. They had been going to this church for a whle, but for some
reason, I didn't go with them. This new church was called L.A. Hanmi, and
it was tiny compared to churches like OMC (Oriental Mission Church.) For a few
years, I didn't really like it much, since I didn't exactly know anyone.
Even so, I became more involved my junior year, mainly because of a
new pastor that I had. His name was Ben Shin. It wasn't obvious to me then
but this man truly changed my life by showing me what a true relationship
with Christ was. His genuineness showed through and I began to learn a lot
through his fervor for God's Word. I also started learning the guitar and
began learning how to lead praise. I began having quiet times at this time as
well.
I gew a fair amount, but I think college really opened my eyes because it
was then that my faith was tested outside my small sheltered world in
Beverly Hills. I have been growing every since. I could say that my
life is a kind of steady climb. It doesn't really have much of a roller
coaster aspect to it, but then I don't grow by leaps and bounds either.
Well, I guess it doesn't matter how I get there, but I hope that I will continue
to be more like Him all the time.
