Quite a few people have asked for a "how to" on banner creation. This cyber-wizard has quite the banner creation routine and published this Web page.
Take a look around at various banners. The best single places for non-pornographic banners to get the most exposure are the search engines. There are a few hundred (if not thousand) search engines, and they carry a few thousand banners. Banners are advertisements. A banner has from four to eight seconds to attract the viewer's attention. If it is "unconfused", appealing, and provides an impetus for the viewer to click, a banner "stands a chance" of doing what you'd like it to do: get a "hit." Banners should use at least one image. Maybe, even up to four images. (A kid on a bicycle with a lollipop is one image.) Each image used in a banner should relate directly to either the primary or secondary message. Often, the primary message is "This is cool. We're cool," or "This person is sexy, and interested in you." |
Text is almost always used. Target URLs in a banner is somewhat redudant. The 10 to 15% of pixels could probably be better used. So, what text should be used? As with images something that relates directly with either the primary or secondary message presented in the banner.
"Attention getters" have been used by advertisers for thousands of years. A bit of food, a comely face, a "free" offer that ends up costing you half of your estate. Gimmicks used for my banner are relaxation and escapism. As for the banner itself, you will need something better than the paint package that ships with most operating systems. This cyber-wizard uses a combination of three professional packages. They run about $800 (USD). If you have interest in other ways to help out a Web page or Web site, visit the Web Page Page |
