My 1999 European Vacation

I want to share some highlights of my wonderful 1999 European vacation with you. In order to show you as many pictures as possible, I only took about 240 :-), I decided to use 6 pages for this story, so the download time won't be so long for you.

After I got the pictures back I realized that the date on my camera is printing out wrong, it shows the month of August for all pictures when they all were supposed to show the month of September. Sorry about that, I will get it fixed.

I would suggest that you get yourself a drink, sit back, relax and I hope you will enjoy it.

Jim and I left on August 30th and flew with Lufthansa Airline from Newark NJ to Munich Germany. This was my first non-smoking flight across the Atlantic and even though I was a little apprehensive at the start, I survived it quite well without experiencing any withdrawal symptoms. I guess it’s all a mindset :-). We arrived safely in Pressath, the town where I was born and raised and which is still home in my heart.

After 2 short days at my sister Christl’s house in Bavaria we left for a 4-day trip to the Austrian Alps.

The Ladies Choir Group that Christl belongs to takes a bus tour twice a year. In the spring they go for a beach vacation either to Italy or Spain and in the fall they always go to the mountains. I’ve been in the Alps before, but every time I go there, it takes my breath away anew. We did a lot of wandering in the mountains, which was a first time experience for us. They split up in 2 groups, the experienced wanderers who have all the proper clothing and gear and as I call them the wanna be wanderers, which is the group that obviously Jim and I fell into :-).

Surprisingly we did very well and enjoyed it tremendously. To be almost on top of a mountain (wooded, not rocks - God forbid) and look around you and down into the valley is simply awesome and I don’t quite know how to put it into words.

At this point we are half way up the mountain on our hiking tour

On the 3rd day the experienced group did an all day hike, from 8:00 AM to 6:00PM. We participated on the first leg of that hike until noon.

We reached our destination for that day - from now on it was all downhill, which is actually harder to do than walking uphill
