I don't have the books with all the details, but as far as I know, the Coalition is a goverment-nation that spans Texas, the 3 states (territories) above it, and some of Mexico. After the RIFTS/big war, it became the nation. To the west, the Native Americans and others live as bandits and outlaws. Most are escaped from the Coalition, or didn't join it to begin with. To the east are the gangs and "cities" where life is very rough.
The Coalition makes every military thing possible! Genetic people, consisting mostly of Dogs (Dog-Boys) and Cats (Killer-Cats & Battle Cats) and also Cyborgs, robots, machinery, bombs, any other stuff they feel they need. It's basically a big goverment-military complex, with little ones scattered across the "nation".
When, and IF you run away, there is usually a price put on you, dead OR alive. If you were a good soldier/worker, they prefer alive, but if neccessary, or if you were a slacker, they will kill you on sight.
Once again, these facts are not firm...it's just what I've understood so far. I'll have to borrow the books from my friends one day when I have more time.
