During the 1890's a renewed interest in preserving historical buildings developed. In addition, the increasing number of tourists provided a means of raising revenue to preserve and protect these old buildings. All of the spoons on this page are hand engraved.

I have two spoons engraved as "block houses". Since I had no idea what a "block house" was I did a little research on the web. The block house was like a small fortress which would be occupied by troops in case of unrest. There were usually 10-15 rifle positions.
