Burmese Ruby Spoons

Burma is a fairly large country (slightly smaller than Texas) along the Irrawaddy River in Southeast Asia between India and Thailand. The country is very rich in minerals and much of the world's supply of rubies and the best quality jade is found there. At one time Burma was part of the British Commonwealth. I suspect that this rare set of salt spoons was produced a long time ago.

Cute finials with faceted natural rubies. Note these do not appear to be synthetic rubies and also note the different colors. These rubies are too small and of lesser quality for nice jewelry use. The left spoon is a tea leaf, the middle spoon is a representation of a pagoda which is very important in the culture and on the right we have an elephant which is basic to the culture.

Note the almost "pinkish" color of the middle spoon. Unfortunately the "foo dog" on the right has lost its stone.

the spoons are marked "ss"
