My collection of tea pots is all McCormick. This is my family name and I and my brothers and sisters all collect tea pots of this type.
This information came from the McCormick Factory. In response to are request for information.
McCormick had begun processing Tea early in the century. In 1910 the company was noted as one of the 1st First producers Tea in gauze pouches, thereby introducing "Tea Bags"
Our first 5 cup golden brown Teapots were offered in 1907 as a premium to our customers and were manufactured by the Hall china Co. of Liverpool Ohio. Teapots proved to be popular items, so they have continued to carry them in various solid colors. In the 1930's we offered white Teapots with a broad green stripe, narrow platinum stripes, platinum handle, knob, and Spout stopped. This was followed by a 6 cup, turquoise Green pot in 1938. In the early forties other colors were introduced, such as cadet, maroon, blue and brown.
The numbers stamped on, the unglazed surface on the bottom are identification numbers for Hall China's management to tell which tradesmen made the Tea pot.
The numbers this refers to were easily worn off so you probably won't see them.
This is the information that I Got from the McCormick factory.
How to age your Teapots
The easiest way to tell the age is by the markings on the Bottom of your Teapots.
The markings are dated as follows.
This covers the 5, and 6, cup Teapots.
1907-1930's The bottom of these Teapots were glazed in the center and around the out side was a ring about a half inch wide that was not glazed. In a ring halfway around they glazed portion they say McCORMICK & CO and around the bottom they say BALTO and going straight across the middle it says TEAS. these Teapots were not sold to the public they we giveaways for sales representatives to give to there larger clients.
These Tea pots will always be in a single color golden brown.
1930's to 1938 They offered white Teapots with a broad green stripe, narrow platinum stripes platinum handle, knob, and spout.
I can not give you Details on the bottom of this one, mine is packed up in a box. I would like to see a picture of yours I will scan it for so you can put it on your page if you wish
1938 to 1940's they had a 6, cup turquoise green teapot in 1938.
I don't have information on this one either.
In the early 40's other colors were introduced such as cadet, maroon, blue, and Brown.
these Teapots did have glaze on, the bottom and they said McCormick halfway around the top and around the bottom they say Made in the U.S.A. and going straight across the middle it says TEA Baltimore MD. The newer Tea pots have the same markings but they are not glazed the older one of the unglazed bottom type has a smooth finish and the other feels like unfinished porcelain
