On March 27, 1999, John Andrewjeski, Mark Leo and I (Jeff Wong) took leave of their senses and, under cover of night, walked, fell and crawled twelve miles to the Havasu Falls campground. I felt like I barely made it, due to really tender feet.
Canyon wrens woke us an hour after I slipped into my sleeping bag and we awoke to shoot photographs.

Don't you want to go?   Go to the reservation and hike in.   by the way, if we find out that you took a helicopter in, we'll laugh your rich, lazy, spineless carcass out of the canyon.    You can pay for a mule to take your pack down for you, if you trust the packmasters.  And if you're thinkin' about riding a mule in, we'll buy you a red and white gingham dress for your trip.

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know.--Groucho Marx
