Hobbies

Like I said I'm a person of many interests.

These are just 3 of 10 porcelain dolls I made one year for Christmas. The antique reproduction dressed in peach was for my baby sister. The baby was made to look like one of my nieces. I made 3 treetop ladies. This is the one that lives on top of our tree. She holds a light while the others held a basket and a wreath. It was quite a challenge to get them all finished before the holiday but worth it to see the expressions on their faces.

This doily is 27 inches across. All the tiny seed beads were first strung onto the thread then crocheted into the piece. My mother taught me to crochet but it was my great grandmother who inspired me to crochet doilies. If she ran out of crochet thread she would sit and work with plain sewing thread. I would never have that much patience

This is just one sample of my cross stitch and one of my simpler smaller wreaths. The picture was made for the hall bathroom. The duck and cattail motif was handcarved into the mat and gilded. The wreath was something I kind of threw together out of scraps from other projects. The angel heads were thumbsucker doll heads. First, I made their hair with cotton balls and white glue and let it dry. Then I gessoed the whole head and painted it with very pale colors.
