Mutt & Jeff, Adventures at the Swap Shop
MUTT woke up at 5AM and since he had planed to go to the Flea Market, decided to get up and have time for two cups of coffee. First thing to do was turn on the computer and check the e-mail. There it was - a message from JEFF. He had read my message at 12:40 AM last night, just before going to bed, saw that I had said I was headed out early Thursday and replied "Will meet you there at 6:30AM".
The sky was clearing, dry, no rain, but just in case Mutt took a small umbrella, just to be safe. Right off the bat, he made three purchases, non-numismatic; a CD-rom with 100 foreign language word processor - $1., a cut glass candy dish with a small rose engraved $1., and a pair of brass bookends, not very old - $1.
Jeff as usual, kept asking for foreign coins, to no avail. It was hot! The humidity was very high and not a breeze was stirring.
Then came the numismatic finds: a miniature medal with ribbon - white metal with lion standing on a wild kill, 1939 -1945 above high to right, Reverse - plain. At this point unattributed, except that it appeared to be of World War II vintage.
From the same dealer - French telephone token with an old style dial phone engraved on the bronze token. Nothing else, except to run into Harvey, who said "See you tonight at the coin club meeting".
It was just too hot to keep going after three hours, so we moved in-doors where it was air conditioned for water, coffee, etc. After a long rest session we left.
Mutt had to make a stop before arriving home, when the excitement set in. He had lost his wallet. He carries two of them, the good one, which he still has with papers, credit cards, money, and i.d. The lost one contained; three department store cards, and old membership cards, photos and the like, a dollar bill. Plus today he put in the wallet three dime size coins Jeff had added his magic to from Sunday, the miniature medal and the telephone token. Bad day at the Flea Market for him!
Called the bank where he had stopped, no they had not found anything. Canceled the three dept. cards, looked in his auto twice. Just a bad day! Charge it up to luck and better luck next time.
Since the numismatic items are lost - no pictures this time.
