Mutt and Jeff Back At the Swap Show Together

At the last Coin Show, Jeff said, "Are you going Thursday to the flea market? Mutt's reply was "If it is not raining". So, it was agreed to meet at 7:00AM. Just as Mutt pulled into the free parking lot at ten to seven, he saw Jeff walking forward. "You been here long?" "About ten minutes" was the answer.

The first numismatic find of the day, was a 1986 Lincoln cent, which Jeff picked up from the walk. This was the beginning of a successful find of 3 U.S. Cents during the morning. As they joked about the find, Jeff kept asking, "Have any foreign money or paper money?" Every once in a while, the reply was "no se" or a strange look, as not all dealers speak fluent English.

The next purchase for a dollar was a poster showing the Marine guard and Arlington Monument of the Unknown Soldier, a folded United States Flag and the Vietnam Memorial above the images of a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. It needs a new frame, but the 1989 poster is perfect.

Mutt and Jeff met a very interesting dealer. Yuri is from Kiev (formerly U.S.S.R.) Now a U.S. citizen, he has been in the states for twelve years. Mutt purchased the two Russian medals, he had seen last week, after he heard their history. Yuri said the first one was presented to him by the Soviet Government on his 25th anniversary of labor in Russia. The second one, he said was a medal presented to all the residents of Kiev, upon the 1,500 Anniversary of the City. The obverse has Lenin Statuary above four people, with the sunburst behind.

Moving along, Jeff asked for coins again, not knowing the dealer was a member of the FLCC. He seemed to only have books. Mixed in was one small Spanish coin for which Mutt paid a nickel. After Mutt purchased a 50 Cent - eighty-year-old book about London, they learned of his connection to the club as a regular show dealer. Soon he was introduced to: Mutt and Jeff. Now he laughed and said, "So you are the fellows I have been reading about". He concluded with "I like the stories". While Jeff said, "Well, you will be in the next one".

It looked like no more coin finds, as they passed up a 1984 Canadian Dollar at $10 displayed with two fake French 10 Franc peices, until a lady donated a small Greek coin, when she was told, "The club gives these to the Young People". Hearing this, she began a search of her vehicle, coming up with 5 more tokens and coins for which Mutt paid her the quarter, she asked.

By this time it was very hot in the sun. Not a cloud in the blue sky. So Jeff and Mutt headed for the canteen for coffee and an English muffin. The day had been good! They each said "See you at the meeting tonight", as they walked to their cars.
