He got an early start. The weather was in the low 80's according to the radio. Scattered showers are expected so he was sure to take a small umbrella. Since he as not meeting Jeff, he headed out to the back of the flea market, which at that time was only half set-up. First numismatic purchase the dealer had only one, as he said he had previously sold all the others in the folder. Mutt quickly paid the two dollars asked, as Capt Mike was standing next to him. Mutt said " I guess I better buy this, if I don't, I know he will". As they walked away the Capt. murmured "You know that is worth $25." The item The World's First Gold & Silver Banknotes - $100 from Antigua and Barbuda serial number 009212 Independence 1981. Moving along, the next item was a 1999 1 EURO from France as it had the RF along with the motto liberty egalite fraternite, cost $1 U.S. Dollar with the EURO trading at $1.18 today. Not long after this, it started to shower the umbrella came in handy, but the rain quickly came down in cats & dogs, so Mutt made a mad dash for the canteen. The coffee was refreshing and at the counter, met another young man with his father, who had just purchased a $1,000 bearer bond 1992 from a Railroad, traded in New York. As his sister works for a stockbroker, he felt his $15.00 gamble might payoff and be worth over the thousand dollars. Back out in the sunshine, ran into Harvey. Talked a few minutes until Harvey went one way and Mutt, the other. Soon another treasure was found for $1. This time it was a money clip .925 sterling with a 1957 one Peso Mexican coin mounted on top. The peso is only .100 fine, but it still was an interesting find. Last but not least, a small plastic key tag with a stylized small picture of the new U.S. $100. bill in it. Cost only 10 cents. All in all, it was an interesting day. The dealers were friendly. Although hot, it did not seem that way, because of the overcast. |
