Office Safety
Over the past several years there has been a great deal of concern over safety in the dental offices. Today no one is certain about what diseases they have come in contact with. Over %20 of people with communicable diseases, do not even know they have been exposed! Dental professional organizations, such as ADA and CDA, have established guidelines to safeguard patients and dental professionals in this regard. In our office, we meet and exceeded all these guidelines. We do this for both you, our patient and ourselves. This will assure us that there is minimal chance of exposure to any pathogen caused by an accident, while you are in our office. We do this by taking our office infection control policy, very serious. This is done by first treating every patient and employee in our office, as if they are carrier of t. By doing so we can eliminate any chance of cross contamination due to visit to our office. Following is a short list of our office safety policy and procedure:
All our instruments, including dental drills , are ultrasonically cleansed and sterilized after each use with an autoclave machine (steam sterilizer). Our autoclave is tested weekly by an independent laboratory, which specializes in monitoring sterilization units. This insure proper function and use. Instruments are stored in sterilizer bags, as to prevent possible contamination. We use plastic barrier on areas of the treatment rooms which cannot be sterilized. We use disposable materials as much as possible to maximize safety. We use bright chart labels to worn us of any special medical need of our patients. All office personnel must undergo emergency procedure practice, at least once a year. Most of our office staff have undergone CPR training. We have a complete emergency kit, including positive oxygen, anti anaphylactic shock injections, asthma medication and many more. This kit is updated every few months. Our staff always use: gown, masks, gloves, and eye wear as an added precaution. Radiographs are taken with high speed films, which requires least amount of radiation. We take our X-rays, with a special instrument, in order to use the narrowest of beams. A lead apron is used with a thyroid collar whenever possible to block excess X-ray. In our office the x-ray machines are calibrated on a regular basis so our patients do not receive unnecessary radiation.
With proper precautions dental radiographs are of great benefit and little if any risk to the patient.
