Temple of Santo Domingo
This virreinal Jewel, pride of Oaxaca, are an imposing architectonic assembly, show the exceptional of baroque of México. Its construction was in charge of the Dominican ones. There it was the convent of San Pablo, which was in ruins due to several earthquakes, reason why in 1608 it was inaugurated, even unfinished, the present assembly. The works extended up to 1666. The chapel of the Rosary was constructed between 1724 and 1731.
All the interior of the temple is remarkable. The genealogical tree of the Dominican ones, yesería can admire itself gold cromated. It also emphasizes the decoration in target and gold of his walls and their vault of tube run with numerous paintings; also its greater altar with its splendid altarpiece with gold leaf, reconstructed by oaxaca craftsmen in 1959. The refinement and baroque style repeat in the innumerable objects and works of ebanistery, blacksmith shop, sculpture, etc. The chapel of the Rosary is, by itself, a jewel by its magnificent architectonic proportions and their ornamentación.
This temple is to the ex-convent dominico annexed, at the moment turned into the Regional Museum of Oaxaca.
