    Travel Tips

  • By car. Richmond is located about five miles from Scotch Corner, the well known staging point on the A1 in North Yorkshire. This point can be reached from the Lake District, via Kirby Stephen and Brough, and using the A66, in about one hour from Kendal. From all other directions, the A1 provides a fast and usually unhindered route to Scotch Corner. From there, Richmond is clearly signposted.
  • By train. The nearest mainline railway station is Darlington, Co. Durham. A taxi from the station will cost about £12, and the taxi office at the station is open 24 hours a day.
  • By Air. Flights from Amsterdam and London Heathrow arrive at Teeside Airport, from where you can hire a car, or take a taxi. If you plan to stay a few days, a car is recommended as you will be able to explore Swaledale, to the west of Richmond, and Wensleydale famous for its cheese situated a few miles south.
