I am putting together a series of FAQs on how to decode uuencoded files from different newsreaders. I appreciate all comments, opinions, and questions. If you feel that the material here is hard to understand, or need more help, please feel free to contact me at hagie@netcom.com. I want to make these as useful to people as I can, and suggestions are appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- RN/TRN newsreader There are multiple ways to decode file in Rn/Trn. The simplest (but not exactly the easiest) way is to so each part separately. Assuming that the file is in multiple parts, goto the first part (i.e. look at it like you are about to read it) , and press 'e'. Continue going through all of the parts of the file, as you do each part, you should see: Continuing filename.ext: (Continued) They have to be in order though, you need to hit e for part one before part two, etc... When you get to the last part and press 'e', you're done. It know that the file is complete. All that is left is to go and download it. The other way, and certainly easier for multiple part posts that are out of order, is to do it all with one command. The first thing you need to do is get all of the numbers of the posts that you want to decode. You can do this by hitting the '=' key. Let's say that you get something like this: . . . 736 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 4/9) 737 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 5/9) 738 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 6/9) 739 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 0/9) 740 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 1/9) 741 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 7/9) 742 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 8/9) 743 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 2/9) 744 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 3/9) 745 Re: Magic Eye Pictures REQUEST (LEXHOLO 9/9) End of article 736 (of 755) -- what next? [npq] Now you can concatenate the posts automatically by putting the numbers in the right order, using either a single post (,#,) or a string of posts (,#-#,). Follow the list of files with an 'e'. In this case the easiest string would be: 739-740,743-744,736-738,741-742,745 e but this would work too: 739,740,743,744,736,737,738,741,742,745 e If you want to decode the pics to a different directory (the default is $HOME/News on most system), put the path name of the directory after the 'e' i.e. 740-744 e $HOME/temp will put the files in you temp dir. Special thanks to Jost Weinmiller for help in using Rn/Trn.
