PROGRAM: Our visitors from London should be with us this meeting and rumor has it that they have brought some SUPER 8 film of their birds to show us. Chuck, so we have a projector available that will let us see it? Please call Steve Howarth about it so we can be prepared - that's 662-0266 in case you've lost your list while prowling about the exotic places of this world!
Whee! Mostly birds, minimum business this meeting!
Ron Fournier spent two weeks getting his slides of the Australia trip ready for us to see at the August meeting only to find that we had no power to run his projector because of the painting going on inside the building. However, wew did find out that Ron is a much better speaker than he ever gave himself credit for as he gave a very entertaining verbal description of the trip. And an eye opener about the relative costs of birds in different parts of the world. Just as a quick example: in Austrailia, a Greater Sulphur Crested cockatoo goes for $50.00 while an Olive Lovebird costs $3500.00!! Hoo Boy! Could we work a deal if the governments would just get out of the way, but then, the prices would drop all around if the governments would just get out of the way! Ron, how about you calling Steve too and find out how much time will be needed for the film from London. Perhaps we could see the London film and the Australian slides BOTH in this meeting? I suspect our visitors would enjoy seeing them as much as we would.

ALSO to Mary Schreiber for the Budgie, Dudley Cox for the spice finches and Naomi Cisper for the canary for the raffle.
I have a letter from Sandy Price, she's not mad at us, she's just having an awful summer with illness in her family all over the place and therefore hasn't been able to attend meetings. One of the good news/bad news aspects of her summer is that her mother is very ill in Kentucky and that is, of course, very sad for Sandy and her brothers and sisters. Sandy's Mom has been an avid canary breeder for 30 years and, because she can no longer care for her flock, the family decided it would have to go. Sandy couldn't stand the thought of them being splity up that way so she had them sent - via Air Freight - here. So the bit of good news in all of this is that Sandy is now a canary person too! AND among the flock she just adopted are 37 American Singers. Nice to know we have a member who will be breeding American Singers. They've been scarce on the West Coast. Hany in there Sandy!
