The Institution

Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda College of Engineering was established in 1986 by the Academy of Liberal Education. It is situated in Kurunji Bhag at Sullia which is on the highway between Mysore and Mangalore.

The college offers degree courses for Bachelor of Engineering (B. E.) . The duration of the course is four years, extended over eight semesters, each of four months. The following courses of instruction are offered for the respective degrees with intake permission as noted against each.

About Sullia

Sullia is a rapidly developing town endowed with nature's gift in the form of evergreen belts, hills and dales and the river Payaswini. Situated on an ideal campus the college is an appropriate place for academic pursuit. There are adequate facilities for transport and conveyance. The nearest city railway station is in Mangalore. There are daily air services from Mangalore to Bangalore and Bombay.

The population of Sullia is about 1,50,000. Kanada is the language spoken besides Tulu and Konkani. The town is at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level. Its latitude and longitude are between 12.6 deg. and 12.7 deg. and 75.3 deg. and 75.5 deg. respectively. The climate is warm with rains commencing from June - July which continues for two or three months. Some of the well known places nearby which attract a large number of visitors are Udupi, Karkala, Mudabidre, Mangalore, Malpe, Dharmastala, Subrahmanya and Madikeri (Coorg).

Admission Procedures


A candidate seeking admission must have passed the qualifying examination (2 year Pre-University Course of Karnataka or its equivalent examination of other states with 10+2 pattern approved by Mangalore University) with a minimum of 50 percent marks in optional subjects comprising Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Any individual case of doubt or uncertainity regarding eligibility must be referred to



Application Procedure :

Candidates seeking admission to engineering courses can have the application forms after the announcement of the Pre-University examination results on payment of prescribed fees. Students from outside Karnataka can also ask for the application forms during May/June. The application forms can be had from

Any student can register his name on payment of Rs. 100/-(Rupees one hundred only) and apply for a seat in the prescribed application form along with the required documents.


Selection Procedure :

The application of all candidates who have registered before the specified date will be reviewed by a Selection Committee. The application will be scrutinized and referred if necessary to Mangalore University to ascertain eligibility. The final selections will be made only on getting approval from the University regarding eligibility. Admission to the College is subject to candidate appearing for a personal interview and the payment of the full prescribed fees prior to the stipulated date.

General Information


The college is provided with qualified staff, well equipped laboratories, a central library equipped with latest books and journals and various departmental libraries which enable the student to persue his/her studies successfully.

The students association, various departmental associations, student chapter of Indian Society for Technical Education provide the necessary forums for the student to participate in co-curricular activities. Adequate medical facilities are available in and out of the campus. Facilities for the sports - Indoor and Outdoor are available and are being continuously improved.

As there is a great demand for hostel accommodation by the students, accommodation is provided to the maximum number of outstation students. At present 650 boys and all girl students (around 350) have been accommodated in the hostels.

Also, there are a variety of activities managed by the students like cultural clubs, photography clubs, hobby clubs, etc. which bring out the best in the students. There are annual college festivals - "Utsav", "Casuals" and an inter-college annual festival "Kurunji Fest".


Central Library :

The college has a library consisting of technical books, periodicals and other publications and is open to the staff and students of the college and to others with written permission from the principal. The library consists of the following three sections

  • Issue section
  • Reference section
  • Reading Room section

The library has a collection of nearly 30,000 volumes of technical books covering the various engineering disciplines like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering branches and various fields like Science and Mathematics. It has also a good collection of books on English language and topics of general interest. The library subscribes to numerous Indian and International journals in Engineering and Science.
