I've been inline skating for about 3 years now and I have a real passion for it. There won't be a day in the summer where you won't find me on the downtown bike paths, unless it's raining (or snowing). I skate for the
exercise, relaxation and the scenery. My favorite route is from the south Calgary Zoo parking lot to Edworthy park and back on the north side of the Bow River. This is about a 20km (12 mi.) round trip which I can usually do in an hour. I've been clocked cruising at 25km/hr for extended periods of time.

Being in a car pool, I usually skate home from work when I'm not driving (mostly uphill, 17 km).

I've noticed a lot more people skating in the last year or so than there was when I started. Now, it's rare not to see at least 10 other skaters any time you go out.

Inline Skating Calorie Usage Chart

I found the following information in a Rollerblade ® brochure explaining their Roll & Tone program. It was all metric and I converted it to Imperial (never could figure out my weight in kg). It says it is based on a University of Massachusetts fitness study.

Examples: If you weigh 140 lbs and you skated for 30 minutes at 13 kph (8 mph) you would burn up 5.1 x 30 = 153 calories. If you weigh 190 lbs, you would burn up 222 calories.
