In the last few weeks a second desert trip has been discussed to both check some of the last performance criterion of the 10 Meter phased array, and also to exploit what may be the last good 10 Meter band opening of Solar Cycle 23!
We have chosen the weekend of December 15, 2001. This weekend date should place the "MUF" in good stead, as we will be at a good point in the 28 day Earth/Sun position cycle. We are anticipating not only great 10 Meter wavelength band DX but, also the prospect of a good F2 layer ionospheric opening for 6 Meters! Think Europe, or at least Japan on 6 !
Please let us know if you will be attending, by RSVP'ing via e-mail, or via one of the Inland ARS repeaters myself most often am on the 145.440 MHz. repeater.
We will be going to an area near Cuddeback Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert. This area is approximately 13 miles North of California Highway 58, just off and to the East of Highway 395. A map is available showing this area on our web page. You will find the map in the first article about this 10 Meter band project. We will be in an area we refer to as "the concrete saddle", which is a few miles east of Fremont Peak. I suggest that you print the map, and bring it with you. Use 146.520 MHz. FM as our simplex communications channel. The 145.280 MHz. Table Mountain repeater also covers this part of the desert quite well!
