This book was actually the first that made me realize, contrary to the teachings of my
economics and sociology professors, that it is man, almost always a single man or woman,
that inspires to build greatness. Oh yes, to be sure, those who swiftly follow to benefit by
any economic gains in such great ventures are not far behind but, it is a man and his driven
idea that gets the job done! Not the financiers that almost always do not really appreciate
what they are financing!
This book, "The Ascent Of Man" tells a wonderful story of great achievements, and
things that go bump in the night. The book covers areas of history that would rightly be
called a study in Anthropology yet, it is such a widely encompassing book, that limiting it to
any such category is almost absurd! If you have any interest in Technology, Technocracy,
History, Anthropology, or Sociology you will love this book! In fact you will love it if you
only want to read to know and find out how it is that we have come to be the people we
are!
