Book Review
By: John Wendt WA6BFH

Title:The Curve of Binding EnergyAuthor: John McPhee
Publisher:Farrar, Straus and Giroux
International Standard Book Number: (ISBN) 0374133735
Library of Congress Card Number:

This book like all that I have read by this author is a masterpiece of writing and description. After being enthralled by the style and thinking of the man, I sought to look up other books he had written. I was not disappointed! He writes about many things that I am interested in, or maybe he just writes so well that it doesn't matter what the subject is!

In any case this book, "The Curve of Binding Energy" tells the story of nuclear physics. It tells this story however in a very unusual and fascinating way! It follows the life and biographical story of one of "the bombs" developers. In fact the "Manhattan Project" may well not have yielded any useful results without the protagonist of the author's treatise, one Theodore "Ted" Taylor. Ted by the description and depiction of Mr. McPhee is one wild, crazy, and brilliant kind of guy! In fact as you read this book you will realize and appreciate, as have I, that John McPhee is quite a smart dude himself!
