Craftsman:
Designer, Adept, Artist, Workman, Inventor, Contriver, Artificer
Master, Skilled, Accomplished, Deft, Skillful, Expert, Practiced
Creator, Artisan, Maestro, Virtuoso
The above synonyms are derived from the word Craftsman, and the Tech Bench Elmers Amateur Radio Society Craftsman award will be presented to Amateur Radio operators who have shown prowess in either of the two following areas of endeavor.
1) To design and build some device for use in the Amateur Radio practice, such as a radio transmitter or receiver. The recipient of this award would have to show his design on paper or via some other readily available means for documentation display. This documentation would show the symbolic (schematic) pictorial, as well as a verbal description of the poignant design elements that make the device both useful and "state of the art". Copying someone else's design or building a kit, would not be adequate to qualify for this award.
2) To describe, discern, or originate a conceptual explanation for some aspect of the physics of radio transmission or propagation heretofore unknown or not yet thoroughly explained.
Examples of this 2nd category might be such as a complete explanation of all mechanisms that contribute to the phenomenon of "Sporadic E-Layer" radio propagation, or a complete explanation of the physics of the Sun Spot phenomenon and the ways it originates and effects radio communication.
Recipients of these awards will receive honorable mention from our group as well as a fine certificate suitable for display in your radio room.
Criterion for these awards will be as follows:
Recipients must hold an Amateur Radio license
Recipients must present new data or design practice, not merely copy the design work of others.
Other criterion may be added in future and will be listed as have these requirements
