Hi neil, I love your site. It definitely helped me pass my core exam. I wrote it Apr. 12 and got a score of 85%. Here are some questions which I remember:

 

1.    Coax cable is same as?  a)10 base 2  b)10 base t,  and couple of other choices

2.    what is the best way to keep system from overheating? a) turn of when not in use b) keep cover on at all times, etc

3.    Floppy IRQ

4.    # of pins on a SCSI cable

5.    what is an RS-232

6.    ATAPI specifications

7.    COMM & LPT  IRQs and I/Os

8.    Network cards have a unique...? a)domain name b) computer name c) MAC *

9.    You have 2 drives on one cable and a CD Rom on the second cable. What do you set the CD Rom at? a) master b) slave c) master and slave

10.    No beep on bootup, what's the problem?

11.    The first thing a dead battery will affect is? (I chose CMOS)

12.    how do you discharge a CRT?

13.    Know your LPT & Serial cables

14.    What does the writing phase on a laser printer?

15.    PCMCIA type III is...? (hard drive)

16.    What is needed for a PCMCIA card to work? (software enabler)

17.    How many pins on a floppy cable?

18.    How many on a IDE cable?

19.    If IRQ 2 is used, what IRQ can't be used? (9)

20.    Know at least these 3 modem commands 1) ATD - dial 2) ATZ - reset 3) ATH - hang up

21.    Highest risk of ESD? (cool and dry)

22.    Another question about highest risk of ESD? (I think answer was before a thunderstorm)

23.    2 questions on what a good fuse registers (o.o ohms)

24.    2 diagrams, each ask you to identify parts of a system board (first was PCI slots, and second was system battery)

25.    ESD contains what? (not sure about answer, but 2 choices that I remember were: 1)a small charge & 2) a resistor).

26.    Second floppy shows same contents as first, what's the problem? (floppy cable)

27.    what's needed to access files on a network? (I chose access rights)

28.    You have 2 drives, each with a primary and several extended partitions. The primary partition on second drive is automatically assigned which letter?
