They should rename the WIN/DOS exam to SPIN/DIS. I was grabbing my ankles by question #10. Apparently, I got 'em all correct up that point and was wondering where in the hell they got some of these from. With adaptive, they get more difficult. PLEASE, ask me a direct question and I'll answer it. Hope the Core is more straight forward. Thanks for the braindumps. THey are a must. dman

I just took both A+ exams this morning and passed with 505 on one and 515. Things to know for the DOS/Windows test: Identify the OS's functions, structure, and major sytem files,Identify ways to navigate the OS and how to get needed tech info. Differentia
e between types of memory,Identify steps to perform an OS upgrade,Identify the networking capabilities of DOS and Win including procedures for connecting to the network, Identify concepts and capabilities relating to the internet and basic procedures for
setting up asystem for internet access.
Things to know for Core technician test: Identify proper procedures for installing and configuring SCSI devices,Identify common symptoms and problems associated with each module and how to troubleshoot and isolate the problems, distinguish between the pop
lar CPU chips in terms of their basic characteristics, Identify basic networking concepts, including how a network works. Some tricky questions-read the questions carefully to understand what they are looking for. ie: a printer is not working, how do iso
ate that it is not a spooler problem? the multiple question answers have 3 that talk about the spooler and one that does not. Good Luck!

Would someone be so kind as to tell me where I might find the "choices" practice exams?
I have taken the A+ Core exam and passed with a score of 535. I was a nerve bundle, this was my first exam. I felt as though I would throw up the first few minutes of the exam, but finally decided it would be in my best interest to actually "breathe" wh

rge to pass out, I sure hope I'm over that one!

ely I still passed on the first try!! I did however have Mike Myers' A+ Certification book! That guy and his book Rocks!! Its so good, that I'm going to buy myself a copy just for reference. Mike will even email you back if you have a good question about
something in the book. I guess i was fortunate. Cramming the braindumps and the answers alone may get you through the test, but you won't know everything. But Getting THAT book & knowing the braindumps will give you that all around solid foundation. Kud

I wrote the core and Dos/Windows. After all these braindumps, the actual questions seemed ridiculous as I had seen every single one of them before. On the core I got every question right and scored 708. For the Win/Dos I may have got 1 or 2 wrong but I'm
ot really sure (they don't tell you) and scored 668. There were questions that I have seen on this or other sites but never managed to find the actual answers to.
I am brand new to the PC world and studied a whole month for these exams which is absolutely not necessary, but I'm glad that I did.I used Micheal Myers' book which is excellant for non-techies like me. I also used the New Rider's book which was great for
researching all those confusing answers in the braindumps.
Although I'm sure it is possible to pass just on the braindumps alone (with maybe a bit of luck thrown in), I think it kind of defeats the purpose.
Thanks to all those who posted questions and to those who maintain sites like these, for without them I wouldn't of passed.
If I had more to offer in terms of questions,I would..but everything I encountered seems to have been covered.

hello gang,
I have not said much, but I have been looking at this message board as of late (as I studied for my A+ exam).
Well I took the exam today and I was very nervous.
The first exam I took was the core and I was like damn this is easy. When I finish the first 20 question it stopped and I knew I passed, because people say that when it stops at 20 you pass.
So I passed the core. I then had to take the dos/windows immediately after that, I knew I did not study enough for the dos, but I was like, I will just take it ( all I have to get is like 445).
Well those questions were not hard, but just tricky, their was a lot of question dealing with what files were in the config,autoexec.,system.ini,etc. And those questions got me confuse.
Anyways when the 20 questions were up, it kept going, so I was like damn, I must have failed those, it gave me 3 more and then it stopped at 23, and said I passed, I was like OH MY GOD.
This is unbelievable.
I passed both exams today,
thank you all for all the advise you all have posted.
Does anyone know if I should go directly to cisco or study for my Network+.
study those braindumps, night and day. I did for about 3 or 4 days.
1step is to read a good book like the one by MICHAEL MYERS.
2step is to get one of those exam crams books
3step is to go through as much braindumps as you can.
GOOD LUCK ALL>

books didn't go over networking too much, all that crap is in the core book, I never read the core book, they told me not too because they wanted me to take the DOS\WINDOWS first. I am so angry!!!!!!!!!! Well sorry to bitch, thanks for listening. I fee

only took me about 10 mins to finish both tests.
There is nothing for you to worry about.
Just do a lot of practice tests & brain dumps.
You don't have to do anything special only
because it's *ADAPTIVE* test. All the existing
books & practice questions should help you.
Good luck!

passed the Network + Exam (just read a book and took the exam, no studying). I picked up a Novell book by John Paul Mueller - and I am not sure if I got the right book. Maybe I should take a break before reading part of this 900 page tome.

I just passed the A+ certification. I have read both opinions on the Dos/Windows side and the Core side. But, without a doubt, the Dos/Windows side sucked. If I had known the suckdom of the Dos/Windows test, I would have tested that one first instead of t
king the core first, getting past it emotionally, and then taking the Dos/Windows one next. Now, I didn't have to take them back to back mind you, but, I just do better getting jacked up into test mode and getting it over with. After the 10th question on
he Dos/Windows exam, I was thinking "uh-oh". It was one of those tests where you only are sure of only 20 percent of the answers and grapple with the rest. I was sure I failed it, but, I got a 79. I guess my computer experience was just enough to logicall
think through most of the questions. Tips? I have one tip for all test takers: (and this is the only reason I passed the Dos/Windows exam)READ THE QUESTION TWICE, THEN GO THROUGH THE ANSWERS WITH A MICROSCOPE AND THEN PICK THE BEST ONE EVEN IF YOU AREN'T
SURE. There are so many little nasty little things in the answers that you have to be careful. Oh well, good luck all and now it is on to MCSE.

I passed my Netware 4.11 Administration exam yesterday (after 15 questions in 20 minutes) and here's some stuff that I remember:
1. type "LOAD MONITOR"
2. Exibit - type typeless relative distinguished name for an object from the current context
3. How can you pause and delete a print job?
4. Administrator - add a few attributes for a directory and file
5. Administrator - create an object that helps to create number of users with the same properties (tel, department)
(create a template)
6. What are the required properties for the application object?
(Name, executable file path)
7. Which of the following commands generates a list of all files sorted by size from the large to the small file.
Not much, I know, but that's all I remember. The exam itself is not too hard. I used CNEQUIZR to training and it's cool.
The questions in the real test are in the same style as in this CD.
Good luck!

Scored 85% again anyways my test looked like Martins Braindump exactly...gracious..you'd think they'd have figured us out by now but heh heh
I don't know if it has to do with where you are...I took my test in Annandale Virginia and seriously the Dos material covered in Martins dump was 80% covered on my exam
here some others that didn't show up
some dude has no Dos applications running on his computer and you notice that he has Smartdrive loaded in Autoexec. His OS is win95 What do youtell him to do? I chose tell him to remove it cause 95 doesn't support smartdrive
What is the purpose of a system attribute? You'll have to dig for this cause it stumped me
if you are loading 95 to your system and electrical failure occurs, what should you do? I chose reboot and start from the beginning
that's all for now, I'll post more as I remember

1) What type of bus uses 124 pins to attain 132 Mbps throughput?
PCI?
2) A Win 3.x system has a lot of hard space, what can you do to optimize it?
- Make a perm swap file & let windows manage it or Load smartdrive
3) The buffer statement is found in what file?

Core was easier than Dos/Windows for me. I used the Andrews' Exam Prep book which has a good rep but goes a little too far into the details for most folks. The accompanying CD has 200+ practice questions. I also used the Syngress/Osbourne A+ Cert Study
uide which is clear and readable but on the light side. It's CD gave me another 200+ practice questions. I've put together some resources, email me if you have a fast connection.
If you have money to burn or are contemplating spending a lot on a class (I took a 2 wk crash course), the best training I've come across by far is that at www.testout.com (this is not an advertisement! I have no connection to this company.) There is a do
nloadable demo there but unfortunately the site speed is slow, even on a high speed connection. Good studying to all of you. Cheers!

Just got back from taking my Core and Dos/Windows tests. The core was pretty much basic. I didn't find alot of surprises. They did ask for the voltages a 486 and a 586 used. I got a 93 on the Core and a 84 on the Dos/Windows. The Dos/Windows portion
overs alot of Windows 95. More specifically, it wants to know if you know how to maneuver around the interface. I would suggest that you get the steps down exactly on how to access things in the control panel, my computer and explorer. Also make sure y
u know what type of menu items can be accessed by the right mouse click.
I would recommend this website for practice tests. Do them whenever you are on the internet. http://www.freepractice.com/Aplus/aplus.htm

all the I/O address'. The info for the MS Server test was also accurate. They also have NT simulators for the various MS tests, a very cool site.

You are cheating yourself even if you pass the exam because you have to know the underlying principles to know what you are talking about and function in the field.
Anyway, thanks for the great site. It helped me alot.

2)What PCMCIA slot will allow hard drive install?
a)I b)II c)III d)I &II
3)You can network computers with all except:
a)serial cable b)IEEE 1284 parallel cable
c)SCSI cable d)cat 5 cable
4)LPT1 & LPT2 default IRQ's are:

Hey all,
I'm the man, I took core and Win/dos back-to-back this morning and passed both, 96 for core and 79 for dos/win .....
Core was a breeze, i/o's ,irq's,cpu bus sizes, lazer printers(suprise, suprise),modem commands, static electricity, ups's, earth-straps when working on monitors ,,,,, you know, the usual stuff found in Phils tests ....
Win/DOS was another story altogether ....
Sheesh, win 3.1 was all over the place, know your navigations in 3.1 and '95, know about caching and how, know minimum files for boot, know kernal files 286/386 and what they are, know scandisk /? commands, know ALL commands, know what are valid character
in a filename !?>. - I still dunno.
And guys/girls take your time, there's lots of it - and don't be scared to "mark" your uncertain questions when doing the test, it helped me.
Good luck
The fallen one (now A+ certified....)

Hi, I'm from South Africa, wrote both my exams and got 100% on the core (Groooovy Baby), and 89%(dos/Windows), needless to say I found the dos/windows a bit tricky.
I'll put a bunch of links at the end.
I had seen all the questions at one point or another on Neil's and Reggie's web site. Thanks Neil and Reg! I coud'nt of done it with out you guy's. (I think these are the only sites you need to pass the A+.) I did not use any test software. The study guid
I used is the (A+ complete study guide by David Groth)
Know that your sound card uses DMA, so does your floppy drive.
There was something about a thermal fuse, and becuase I had'nt seen it on any other brain dump I had to make an educated guess (remember this is for your fusing roller [not the high voltage power supply])
How many bytes in a sector? (512)
By the way, although I didn't get this in the test (longest file name in windows is 255. Some brain dumps left me confused but it's 255)
There was one diagram of a mother board (remember that if there are slots close to the CPU it's CACHE slots)
There was a little black rectangle toward the edge of the motherboard, had to be the CMOS.
(DOS/Windows)
The best thing here is to do the brain dumps and hope you do well. It's important that you thoroughly familiarise yourself with win 95, practical experience is important.
Know the different methods of installing drivers.
You should also know the basics , boot sequence, which files are not needed , minimum requirements etc.
My advice
Read the question carefully, answer it to the best of your ability and then leave it.
Don't second guess your self because the first answer is usually the right one.
Take your time when answering, there is way too much time to answer all the questions.

I passed both exams today scoring 93 on Core and 89 on Dos/Win. I would like to thank Neil and others for braindumps and questions. I read two books by Sybex (terrible books!!) and studied Neil's questions and other braindumps scattered around the net. Af
er gathering all the info., I figure I got at least 70% of real questions from the braindumps. Compared to CNE exams and MCP (Win95)exam I took last year, this test was a breeze. I finished both exams in 35 minutes. My advice is not to memorize the answer
for braindump questions. If you go over each quesition with a study guide or book, you should pass. If you don't pass after doing this, well...Anyway, study Neil's questions!!! As for my share of braindump, (I think most of the wuestions already posted h
re.) I will add couple questions I remembered.

Wrote both exams this week, 95% on Core, 90% on
Dos/Windows. I used Mike Myers A+ complete guide.
Studied for a month before writing. Read the book, chapter by chapter, take notes about things that you don't know off the top of your head, then study these areas in the book. It sounds silly, but don't waste your time studying things that you already
now. Good luck all!

Yup, this here website sure was a sight for sore, isolated eyes. I took both tests this morning and found them to be quite challenging. Nevertheless, I managed a 96% on the Core Exam and a measly 80% on Dos/Win. I concur with many of the comments shown be
ow concerning how to prepare for the A+ exams. Assuming, of course, that you're a neophyte to the industry (why else would you be taking these exams?), a couple of months study to digest the material would be prudent. This website and its links to practic
tests proved to be of great help. However, I feel that having (and reading) a good text was just as important. I used Michael Meyers "All-in-One A+ Certification Exam Guide" and found it to be about the most readable of the lot. Having passed the tests,
'm all done with the text and would be willing to pass it (as well as some ancillary materials) along to anyone interested in it. Onward and upward and all that.

Just passed the Core with a 71. I had a lot of bizarre, ambiguous questions thrown at me. I'd say
that 40% of the questions on my test were on the internet.
The rest of the questions I had to use good common sense on.
Some advice:
1) don't go to a testing center with an A+ training facility built in
2) Make sure your David Groth Certification books
are updated for the newer exams. I got stuck with the old crap and e-mailed them to find out if there was anything newer available. They (of course) never e-mailed me back and a few weeks later I went to Barnes and Nobles only to find new
ones which I wouldn't buy after knowing their "you
buy then we won't support you attitude".
3) Get yourself a Red Exam Cram book....at $25
they are more than happy to inform you that you are going to pass. Gives you a good feeling!

I passed my A+ exam today and I found it to be quite easy. My advice to nervous participants is not to read anyone's braindumps and study your text book and if possible, get yourself an old computer (486) and identify what's on the inside, play around wi
h the bios, install windows 3.1, 95, dos. Play around in the different environments. You don't have to be proficient just comfortable.

the braindumps are excellent I would like to suggest that if you have
experience then just get the A+ exam cram if you are kinda new get the
Exam Prep book it goes into alot more detail. for about 80 bucks for the
both of them it is more than worth the pr ce. The books got me thinking
along the "flow" of what was asked on the test. Also there is no substitute
for hands on. Look in the classified or what ever recycler newspaper and
get a used 486 and take it a part a couple of times format and load the
hard drive a few times also I have found complete systems for $200 you
will get alot more than that when you pass. I know I did

Hello all! A friend of mine is going to take the new A+ exam within
the next two weeks.Just wondered if anyone that has taken the test has
any good info..I did find one good site for the new test http://www.nerdgirl.net/derekbd.html..There
is alot there. If you have any information on the new test please email
me. Also for anyone trying to decide whether to self study go to a school
or training center--->remember everyone learns differently. If you're not
already a self starter the self study will be ve y burdensome. My friend
went to Mindworks and had a horrific experience. He's still taking the
test but has had to do alot more self study then they originally implied. He
also needed more hands on experience then they offered. It's not like he's
an idi t-he's got an IQ of 180. He just didnt think enough about whether
the format that was offered was compatible with how he learned information.
Make sure you know yourself well enough to pick a learning environment
that suits you (reading books, oral, hands on,with group interaction,etc...)..Well
that's my 2 cents...Thanks everyone!

Passed the core exam on Thursday, Oct. 8. Saw about 5 questions that
I had not seen in any book or braindump. Definitely out of left field and
probably above the knowledge level of what A+ is supposed to be directed
towards.

Great site and very usefull. In preparation for A+ and 5 MCSE in! Only
one mopre to go, I cannot believe it. Question: I upgraded this old IBM
425SX, 386SX, 160 HD, 8 meg simms. I bought 8 X 4 meg simms, 60ns, and
when powered it on got right away before doing the memory count: 0000 201
I presume this is an error message. I checked all the simms but none are
defect. 1. What does code "201" means and 2. How could I get into the BIOS
(I tried every know key commands)? Thanks for your help JM ICQ 3494055

tip to them is to visit Neil and Phil's A+ brain dump web site it was very
informative and quite a few of their qu stions where VERY similar to the
exam questions. Thanks Neil and Phil!!!!! I also learned a few things from
their pages that weren't in my notes. GOOD LUCK!

Many thanks for your braindump site it was very usefull passed the
A+ Core 93% and win/dos 88% thanks to your site, just about all your questions
were on the Exams, I also used the A+ certification kit and found it very
simple . It was like being in computers 101 again ,but was good a review
of some of the older dos and tech stuff i haven't used in years.. Once
again thanks for the site keep up the good work
Milo - 08/14/98 01:26:17
Hi, Did you make it on your own? I mean finished your course and became
an MCSe through self-study. I'm struggling whether to go self-study instead
of enrolling in schoold. The school fees go as high as 18 grand. Please
let me know if it is worth and also if there's plenty of room up there
as MCSE. Thanks,
Goody - 08/14/98 01:24:53
I've been sat at this stupid computer, for about an hour and a half,
looking for some little helping hints to the CNA exam. Unfortunatly yours
has been the only one that i've found . My web name is Goody and I live
a little way outside London, England. Just dropping you a line to say thanks
!!!!!!!!!! at least someone has taken the effort to post something of any
use on the net. I take my exam on Wednesday, but must admit I feel quite
confident. Cheers Goody
Johnny - 08/14/98 01:23:43
I just took the the A+ test and passed with an 89. Your page was the
one I saw with the most questions on the exam. Great Job and thanks again.
I will tell my freinds about this page. If you have any tips on the MCSE
let me know. I am working on Net Ess.< br>
Neil - 08/14/98 01:22:20
Hi Art, Thanks for the comments and best of luck on your certifications.
I took a class for three of the MCSE courses, but besides that, I did everything
by self-study (MCSE, CNA, A+) in eight months, so it CAN be done. However,
be prepared to give up your social life for a few months. Once completed
you will receive the rewards in self-satisfaction, better pay and more
job opportunities. I got a great job within 3 weeks of completing my MCSE.
Good Luck ! Cheers, -Neil
Art Smith - 08/14/98 01:19:50
Dear Sir: I just wanted to comment on your site of MCSE related links.
I am currently working as a Help Desk Rep/PC Technician at a small company
in upstate NY. It is a major goal of mine to achieve A+, CNA/CNE, and MCSE
certifications. Lofty goals, I know, but it is really what I want to do.
As an MCSE, I would be a little more in control of my future than where
I am at now. I don't really see much advancement too far above where I
am now (at least with this company) without the certification. I have taken
it upon myself to do this all myself, since I can't afford to take courses
and the company will not pay for it. Just wanted to say thanks for all
of the helpful information.
Neil - 08/14/98 01:17:51
Hi Bruce, I don't normally answer these questions, but since I'm online
now, I'll try and help. As I have added a few new questions recently that
others have sent me, I havent been placing the answers on my page. The
truth is I'm actually not sure about that question, but it will likely
be on your test (like many other questions on my page). Mindworks says
that answer is General Purpose Cleaner, but Indusyss says the answer is
TMC Solvent. In deciding between those two answers, your guess is as good
as mine. Personally, on the rare times that I do clean my keyboard, I use
an all-purpose cleaner. Hope this helps.

NEIL, ON PAGE 10 OF NEIL'S A+ BRAINDUMP PRACTICE TEST THE QUESTION
"WHAT PRODUCT IS USED TO CLEAN SMUDGED KEYS ON A KEYBOARD?" DOES NOT HAVE
ANSEWER CHOSEN AS CORRECT. COULD YOU E-MAIL ME THE CORRECT ANSWER? I JUST
TALKED TO SOMEONE WHO TOOK THE TEST AND THAT QUESTION WAS ON THE TEST AND
HE DIDN'T KNOW THE ANSWER. I AM TAKING THE A+ ON JULY 18TH. THANKS, BRUCE

Hi Tom, I only used the David Groth books. They're OK. I put a link
at the bottom to the Groth kit at Amazon. If you have hardware experience,
I don't think classes are necessary. You really only need to know the basics
for these exams. And know the questions on my website. Hope this helps
! Good Luck http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0782122957/r/002-6121573-3395658

Hi Neil, I am thinking about taking the A+ certification. Could you
tell me what material(s) did you studied with? I meant book title, author
and etc. Also, do you think that I should take the regular classes or just
book will be enough? I've been working with hardware for few years, but
PC hardware. Thanks in advance. Tommy
