I just finished writing both tests, back to back. I got 90% on the core
and 87% on the dos/windows.
Fist of all I just wanted to give a little something back. Afterall that
superstar braindump was EXTREMELY helpful, mostly in calming down in how
basic the tests are.
I will just add a little to what the other guy wrote, he really hit the nail
on the head, I had almost, if not ALL, the questions he posted, I would
study that first.
One I didn't know, and still don't because I haven't looked it up was :
What extension type is on the end of a file when it is to be EXPORTED from
the regedit program?
1. dA0
2. DAT
3. REG
4. DOC
I for the life of me couldn't remember, I choose DAT, but have a feeling it
was reg or doc, I don't know...*update* Well, I just tried it, it is
filename.REG. oh-well, one of the tougher ones for me.
When is a computer most susceptible to electrical interference?
1. Just before an electrical storm?
2. During an electircal storm?
3. When it's cloudy?
4. It's never in any danger.
I choose, just before an electrical storm, only because I think I heard that
somewhere, but I was probably wrong :)
How does microsoft recommend you install windows '95, with 3.1?
1. In the same folder?
2. In it's own folder?
3. On it's own partition?
4. Start fresh with a format?
I choose in the same folder because I thought they were implying an upgrade,
not a dual boot, because of the word WITH. But I think I got that wrong, I
would try, #2 :)
REMEMBER that reserved memory is another name for upper memory, the area
between 640 and 1024, I had a couple on that, the answer is 384k.
I had MANY, MANY questions on windows 3.1, they weren't hard but it gets a
little frustrating after awhile. Such as:
What are the configuration files for windows 3.x?
Just know they are system.ini and win.ini
What does 3.x use as it's registry?
REG.DAT, I think was the answer.
Someone wants to upgrade to 95, but keep all group settings.
I choose save system.ini, win.ini and GRP files.
A DOS program isn't working in windows, what is your next step?
1. Run it in it's own window
2. Add more RAM
3. Try running it in DOS
4. Return the program to the vender
I am sure that it was try running it in dos, one of those, off the top of
your head questions.
What is the Minimum, recommended and suggested CPU to run win 95?
1. 386dx, 486dx, 586
I think this was the answer, but I don't ever really remember reading about
the recommended and suggested, and a couple of them started with 386dx (that
is the minimum isn't it?)
Other than those, it was a snap, after I wrote it, it gives you your score,
and how many you got wrong so you know, unlike microsoft's PASS or FAIL
routine. I got 6 wrong on the CORE(all in different areas, so it's hard to
tell EXACTLY what questions fit into what areas, and what ones I could have
got wrong), and 9 wrong on the DOS/WINDOWS, and finished them both in under
an hour. I wrote the ones here that I felt a little shaky on, so ANY of them
could be completely wrong, definetely investigate further for yourself.
Just take your time, all the questions are REALLY short, so there isn't much
FIGURING out (if anyone out there has taken TCP/IP you know what I am
talking about), there all simple one liners that you will probably know, or
never heard of. But they don't throw anything crazy at you at all, like: How
many transistors are in a pentium?
Again, I can't stress enough that the braindump extrordinaire was a
brilliant act of memorization, and many of his questions are word for word,
so there is no point in going over it again.
Thanks for listening, and good luck.
